Art Basel is an internationally renowned art fair held annually in Basel, Switzerland; Miami Beach, Florida; Hong Kong; and, starting in 2022, Paris.
Art Basel is a for-profit event that collaborates with local institutions to develop art programs. While its primary focus is providing galleries a platform to showcase and sell artwork, Art Basel has also attracted a large international audience of art enthusiasts and students. Founded in 1970 by Basel gallerists Ernst Beyeler, Trudl Bruckner, and Balz Hilt, Art Basel began with 90 galleries from ten countries and drew over 16,000 visitors.
Under the leadership of Samuel Keller, the fair introduced Art Unlimited, a section dedicated to monumental artworks. Marc Spiegler further expanded Art Basel's success, with the 2019 show in Basel featuring 290 galleries from 35 countries and drawing 93,000 visitors.
The 2020 edition was initially postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but later canceled. However, Art Basel returned in person in September 2021, with 273 exhibitors, including new participants. 2022 was an invigorating year with excellent works being shown and you can view more by CLICKING HERE.
