Is there a piece that signifies a breakthrough for you?
Integral Parts of the Oldest Riddles was one of the first pieces that came together for my exhibition at Skolnick Surgical Tower at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. The piece was a breakthrough as it showed me the power of working at a large scale and in the goal I had set of combining printed silk and painted canvas.

Do you have a piece that you made during a rough patch in your life?
Of course 2020, was a rough year for everyone and the only way I knew to make it through lockdown, the worry of the pandemic and everything else was to draw. This drawing deals with that rift and how we all knew the world and our individual lives had changed - the divide from then and there was impassable.

Which artworks reminds you of your youth or where you’re from?
At the age of 6 my great aunt Leonora, taught me to sew and from there I went on to sew my prom dresses, my sister's wedding gown, and the occasional garment or gift. It was a way of making that I kept separate from my studio practice until this piece. I sewed together photographs of the sky printed on fabric much like my aunt and grandmother sewed together quilts.

How did you use materials to communicate your ideas?
Drawing is a large part of my practice and I relish using the mundane pencil to create a generous, hopeful moment. Graphite, like the majority of life on this planet is carbon based, making it a perfect tool to reference the similarity and interconnectedness between everything on earth, on the molecular level and beyond.

What attribute of a work do you hope strikes the viewer?
I hope my viewers pick up on the energy of my work. My studio practice is centered on processes that take focus and time. The prolonged touch of my hand establishes an intrinsic presence in each piece reflective of the movements of my body and visceral energies. Ultimately these pieces are meditations that reflect past moments of the photographic documentation and the deliberate drawing process. These pieces then are like the sky: still filled with mysteries and a vast sense of history.
