The Whitney Museum of American Art has chosen curators Chrissie Iles and Meg Onli to co-curate its 2024 Biennial exhibition. Iles, a long-term curator at the museum, brings experience and a focus on film and video. Onli, formerly from the Underground Museum in Los Angeles, has expertise in contemporary art, Black film, and video histories. The museum’s director, Adam D. Weinberg, highlights their contrasting perspectives and believes their collaboration will result in an engaging and thought-provoking exhibition.

Rick Lowe The artist has talked about the symbolic qualities of the game as scenarios for community engagement. He finds playing dominos to be "an incredibly spiritual and educational experience. There's a code of ethics around the way the game is played; rigorous competition, humility, and respect."

Rick Lowe (rickloweofficial) uses playing dominoes as the basis for his paintings.

“There’s also a sort of ease and freedom visible in my paintings. I’m not trying to come up with layered messages of meaning. I’m doing what I want in the moment and viewers connect with that.” - Shara Hughes (flauntmagazine)
.
.
With a multitude of solo shows, acquisitions by major museums, and a room of her own at the 2017 Whitney Biennial, Shara Hughes is one of the most exciting and promising new artists .
.
She's also an ATL native, who now lives and works in NYC. "For this show, Hughes takes a more pointed approach to the imaginative landscapes that have defined her practice for the past four years" - by zooming in on flowers, and the effect is brilliant. .

The Whitney Biennial closes today, September 5, at the Whitney Museum of American Art (whitneymuseum). This year's Biennial features dynamic contributions that take different forms over the course of the exhibition: artworks—even walls—change, and performance animates the galleries and objects. Works by Harold Ancart, Ellen Gallagher, and Rick Lowe (rickloweofficial) are featured in the exhibition. Follow the link in our bio to learn more.

An abstract painting from Rick Lowe's "Project Row Houses" series is included in the Whitney Biennial, which opened to the public today, April 6, at the Whitney Museum of American Art (whitneymuseum)!

Lowe (rickloweofficial) describes the painting, “Project Row Houses: If Artists Are Creative Why Can’t They Create Solutions,” as a reflective narrative of his contemplation of the question in the title—a challenge to make work that went beyond representation and symbolism. To create the piece, Lowe cut up and collaged his domino pattern drawings to create a kind of language. During this process, he attempted to identify letters in the collage that make up the question in the title.

“It took some time but I found the letters, and they’re embedded in the painting. It is a quiet secret in that it is difficult to find. That is a specific secret but beyond that, I think the bigger secret is embedded in the attempt to answer the question.” Follow the link in our bio to learn more.

Rayyane Tabet in the whitneymuseum . The artist populated the museum with questions from the naturalization test. When I’d over hear Darrow tutoring folks, I was shocked by the questions that were asked. It’s not that easy to become an American.
