In the New York Times as one of the standouts
during NY design week! Link in bio.
We’re so thrilled & honored to be ‘recognized’ as a hub
for design & ideas. Thanks to everyone involved in this project, our neighbors at the NCL, Aileen for the mention & the thoughtful curator of this exhibit; Jean Lee 🙌
This unique exhibition envisioned by Jean Lee (who worked on this project for 3 years) brought together a wonderful group of designers from different nations with the idea of connection, sharing public space and design.
Public Access took place in two locations, indoor exhibition at Head Hi showing all the projects along with printed reading materials & books specially selected (for sale) for this show.
The outdoor exhibition took place in a natural setting, at the Naval Cemetery Landscape just a short walk from us. We hosted a walking tour( in a downpour rain), bird watching & multiple activities engaging with the public.
It was a wonderful way to interact with all the elements,
and a design exhibition 🌿 plein air accessible to all.
As well as conversation Designing With Care at HHi
co-hosted with the Norwegian Consulate General NY.
Guests speakers included participating designer Kristian Notland, Anne Rachel Schiffmann Snohetta Director, Peter Hedman from Hydro & Kristoffer Vestre.
We look forward to seeing you all again soon,
more events & hhappenins ahead!
Thanks to everyone that visited us,
your support (buying books, drinks & showing up)
keep our independent arts organization going 💫
We love our community.

Thanks Aileen for your visit & mentioning us in your piece ✍️ aileenkwun nytimes Means a lot to us.

Developed as part of Kilómetro Zero, a project born out of the movement restriction imposed in Spain during the easing of lockdown in 2020, Spanish architect and designer Omayra Maymó explores the concepts of adaptation, preservation, and local cooperation through her piece "1927".
“When I design something I don’t start by thinking about the object itself, but instead I think about the intangible relationship that will be created between that object and its user in more emotional aspects.
I see myself as a storyteller. I conceive the object as a form of expression and aim to explore its full narrative and expressive potential. My designs are the language of an intention, an idea that wants to be transmitted beyond the object’s functionality, in order to provoke emotions and move people.”

On view and available: Isabel Rower, Box Chair, 2023
Having long wanted to attempt a ceramic chair, prevented by an uncertainty around the firing process, Rower experienced a freeing effect by the limitations imposed by the Make—Do prompt. Urgency became a foil to overthought, unblocking the instinctive call-and-response at the core of making.
Rower’s fast cardboard maquette (Slide 2) exists in the finished product as the unseen spirit of ad-hocism— a spirit that is inextricable from the highest levels of design, placed front-and-center at Make—Do.
Make—Do, Co-Curated by Catalog Sale and Marta, 12 Historical Ad-Hoc Chairs and 12 Contemporary Ad-Hoc Chairs
Brief: Make a Chair in Three Days.
Day 1, Identify and Gather Material
Day 2, Design & Plan
Day 3, Craft & Assemble

Barcelona-based product, furniture, and industrial design engineer Marta Ayala Herrera`s work is focused on the relationship between humanity and their environment, visualised through objects. She is interested in exploring new materials and new ways of experiencing the world.
The "Patio II" stool is a reflection on the “Patios”, a traditional type of building in Córdoba, materialized through the creation of a seating system. With this connective space in mind, the character of close coexistence between people is reinterpreted and tradition is revived in a common delimited space.

Flower Craft is now open! Come explore the enchanting world of contemporary floral artistry. Each week, a new celebrated botanical artist takes over the Flower Craft gallery to transform blooms and innovative materials into exquisite, ephemeral works of art. The roster of artists includes flwrpstl, doan_ly,lutfi_janania,nori_Noda, EmilyThompsonFlowers, and uunnaamm.
Alongside the ever-changing floral installations that are the heart of Flower Craft, there is a curated selection of vessels in various mediums, complementing the emphasis on the craft and design of flower arrangement. Artists in this section of the exhibition include emulli and jolienope, a video by cauleen_smith, and a collection of works by #MADCollection artists including Betty Woodman, Toshiko Takaezu, and more.
In this ever-changing display, the Flower Craft gallery also functions as a studio classroom for a series of hands-on workshops open to anyone interested in experimenting with flowers as a medium for art and design.
And don’t forget to purchase your Flower Craft Power Pass to enjoy all six weeks of the exhibition with discounted admission.
Flower Craft is on view through June 26.
