[Do Ho Suh] — Seen in the booth of Lehmann Maupin at Frieze London: the exquisitely detailed works by Do Ho Suh. His translucent works seem to transport you to a dream-like world, yet they also tighten your bond with the physical spaces around you. More specifically: You won’t be able to look at your own house (or previous homes) in the same way after seeing one of his works up close. Fascinated by architecture and the personal ties that we form with the spaces we inhabit, he sees these personal architectural spaces almost as a second skin. He’s particularly fascinated by so-called ‘nonspaces`: like the hallway or the landing in your home. Spaces that you always seem to move through, and might not even actively notice, even though you’ll remember the tiniest details of it years down the line. His physical manifestations of memory lane show the various places that the artist spent time in, all over the world (the names of the worlds usually tell you where exactly). This installation was made using a 3D scanner and the incredible details (hinges, door knobs, fire exit notices) are often sown by hand. The fabrics and colours that he uses form a hommage to his South Korean heritage. It’s like the artist teaches you to look more closely to the world around you and I think all the best art...does exactly that.

If I could have only one work – and what a work! - at Frieze Masters:
Lee Krasner’s Number 2, has not been shown in public since it was created in 1951. It is one of just two surviving paintings from her first solo exhibition at the Betty Parsons Gallery, New York, in the same year. Krasner was bitterly disappointed. The critics were lukewarm, and she did not sell anything.
Works she did not like were often destroyed or reprocessed over other canvases, making the new out of the old.
Miraculously, this monumental wonder of rhythmic geometric abstraction escaped her destructive and cannibalistic streak.

세계 최고의 #아트페어 #Frieze 가 #프리즈서울 이란 이름으로 세계에서 4번째 도시로 상륙했다. 그만큼 한국의 미술 시장은 뜨겁단 얘기다.
VIP 오픈 첫날인 2일에 이미 608억원 피카소 작품과 200억짜리 #로이리히텐슈타인 38억짜리 #조지콘도 작품이 팔려나갔다. 첫날 거래만 수천억이라고 한다. 이름만 들어도 살떨리는 가고시언, 하우저앤워스, 리슨 갤러리 등 110여개 세계적인 갤러리가 참여해 기대감을 높였다.
이건 마치 퍼렐, 제이지, 에드시런, 콜드 플레이, 두아 리파 등이 다 덤비는 콘서트장이랑 같은거다. 명성만을 좇아 구경하던 내게 #박재용 님의 족집게 도슨트가 진심 너무 좋았다(완전 감사해요❤️). 잊어버리기 전에 요약하자면,
1. 살 수 없어도 괜찮아요. 이번 주말에 정말 볼만한 ‘temporary museum’이 열렸다고 생각하고 즐기세요!
2. 갤러리 이름 밑에 도시가 써있어요. 도시 이름이 많으면 많을수록 그들의 역사와 규모를 볼 수 있어요.
3. 작가의 이름도 중요하지만 제작 연도를 보세요. 갤러리가 뽐내는 거예요. 우리는 이렇게 이런 작가의 오래된 작품도 내놓을 수 있다고.
4. 사람들은 조지 콘도 사진 찍기에 바빠요. 하지만 그 아래 #루이스부르주아 70-71년 작 작품이 보이죠? 이것만 선을 둘렀어요. 안판대요. 갤러리의 상징적 작품이죠.

The second edition of #FriezeSeoul officially kicked off today with the VIP & Press preview, running through this Saturday (9th). The respected fair, which made its Seoul debut last year and attracted over 70,000 visitors, is back in town with approximately 120 galleries participating this year.
The #Main section features booths from both Korean and international heavyweights, while #FriezeMasters showcases historically significant masterpieces, spanning from medieval manuscripts to works by 20th-century artists. In the #FocusAsia section, small and medium-sized galleries from Asia are presenting ten solo booths by their artists.

The second edition of #FriezeSeoul officially kicked off today with the VIP & Press preview, running through this Saturday (9th). The respected fair, which made its Seoul debut last year and attracted over 70,000 visitors, is back in town with approximately 120 galleries participating this year.
The #Main section features booths from both Korean and international heavyweights, while #FriezeMasters showcases historically significant masterpieces, spanning from medieval manuscripts to works by 20th-century artists. In the #FocusAsia section, small and medium-sized galleries from Asia are presenting ten solo booths by their artists.
Also coinciding with Frieze, #KiafSEOUL—Korea’s largest art fair—takes place on the first floor of the same venue and will continue through the 10th. Swipe now to see some highlights!

For the tenth anniversary of Frieze Masters, Bruce Silverstein Gallery is pleased to present Series and Sequence, an exhibition featuring works spanning the nearly two hundred years of photographic history. Since the invention of the camera, photographers have worked in series in order to explore in depth a specific topic, theme, or stylistic approach. They have also used sequencing of images in reproduction and display to create a narrative, illustrating the subtle similarities and differences between subjects, and depicting the passage of time. Whether intended to be hung together, as in the case of a Bernd and Hilla Becher’s photographic Typologies, or being shown side-by-side for the first time at Frieze Masters, such as a rare group of vintage Alfred Stieglitz’s Equivalents, this special presentation brings together twenty artists from history who have explored Series and Sequence in their practice.
Included in this exhibition are works by Bernd and Hilla Becher, Karl Blossfeldt, Bill Brandt, Constantin Brancusi, Bill Cunningham, F. A particularly richly decorated Book of Hours and charming in its small scale, the present manuscript either documents the collaboration of the pair of father and son illuminators, who were both called François Le Barbier, or represents an early phase of the son’s independent activity, when the squat figural style of the father’s workshop still dominated the arrangements. 📚✨

Provenance: Unidentified motto (f. 7v) and coat of arms (f. 13r); European private collection, in the possession of the same family from the beginning of the 20th century.
