Since the inauguration of the Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art at KW in 1998, KW has served as an anchor exhibition venue for the berlinbiennale – and here we go again!
The Berlin Biennale explores artistic developments to present the unseen and the unfamiliar against the backdrop of the stimulating atmosphere of the German Capital as it is continuously under change thus remaining fragmented, diverse, and contradictory. From 11 June to 18 September 22 artists, theorists, and practitioners from different fields will be brought together and enter into a dialogue with the city of Berlin and its public.
Visit their website for more information and follow berlinbiennale for updates!

🇬🇧👇🏻 Uwaga uwaga, travel tip dla wszystkich, którzy planują letni wypad do Berlina! Do 18.09 trwa 12. Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art - niezła gratka dla fanów nowoczesnej sztuki zaangażowanej (poruszającej problematykę ideologiczną i społeczną) 🎨.
•
Travel tip for anybody traveling to Berlin this summer! The 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art takes place to September 18 and this edition brings together international artists who stand for committed art that addresses the urgent questions of the present - and this year it looks back on more than two decades of decolonial engagement. It gives some good for for thought!
How: the ticket for 18€/9€ (get it online from berlinbiennale #) allows you to visit exhibitions (once at every venue) in six locations around the city until Sept 18th 👌🏻

REPOSTED • artgeneve
This summer, Sammy Baloji’s monumental terrariums are included in two biennales: The Berlin Biennale and the Geneva Biennale!
One is conceived for the inside, the other for the outside.
Both are inspired by the scientific drawings of minerals produced with the purpose of mapping their exploitation in the Congo.
Both also refer to the portable greenhouses which served to transport exotic plants by sea. This mass and international exportation of plants by sea, combined with the extraction of minerals in the colonies, created new economic systems and modified existing natural and cultural ecosystems, a process of uprooting and subjection which contributed to the current climate crisis.
In that sense these work lay bare the traces of a colonial past which has kept a resonance down to this day.

New Executive Members of the Board of KUNST-WERKE BERLIN e. V. 📌
KUNST-WERKE BERLIN e. V., umbrella organization for KW Institute for Contemporary Art and Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, is delighted to introduce new executive board members Paula Macedo Weiß paulamacedoweiss and Axel Wallrabenstein axelwallrabenstein. They succeed Julia Stoschek juliastoschek and Matthias Sauerbruch, who have both decided to step down from the executive board after many successful years of involvement but continue their support of the organization as members. Katharina Grosse katharina_grosse, a member of the executive board since 2021, will remain chair.
Paula Macedo Weiß and Axel Wallrabenstein look forward to a space for encounters and dialogue that makes space for diverse parallel narratives: “KW is a place where progressive ideas can be expressed and experienced. Together with the entire board, we look forward to supporting the organization.”
We look forward to work with you!

We are looking forward to the 12th Berlin Biennale, 11 June – 18 September 22 🔜
The Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art was inaugurated at KW in 1998.
Since then, KW has served as an anchor exhibition venue for the Berlin Biennale – and so are we this year!
With exhibitions, interventions, and events, the 12th Berlin Biennale will span diverse venues in the city, offering a discursive space that bridges different fields of knowledge production. From 11 June to 18 September 22 a polyphonic debate unfolds, convening artists, scholars, and activists to map the world with its ruptures and contradictions, create counter-trajectories to the colonial narrative, and collaboratively shape new forms of agency for the future.
Visit their website for more information and follow berlinbiennale for updates!

Today we highlight the 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art
(berlinbiennale) as a 2022 VIA Grantee in Artistic Production for the production and exhibition of Imani Jacqueline Brown’s “What remains at the ends of the earth?”
VIA is delighted to support “What remains at the ends of the earth?” a multimedia installation that investigates the intersecting histories of land inhabited by Black Louisianans, and the vast network of fossil fuel infrastructure that overlays these sites today. Comprised of a circular video projection on the floor and two custom curved prints, “What remains at the ends of the earth?” aims to bring visibility to the ways fossil fuel production inherits the racist spatial, economic, and environmental logics imposed by slavery. To read about this project, visit VIA’s website, link in bio!

Do better Berlin! I wrote an opinion piece (piece #96!) in support of Iraqi artists who pulled out their works from the Berlin Biennale after an awful curatorial response to legitimate questions regarding their voices & dignity. Beyond art world, genuine decolonization has a long way to go, still. Link in bio.

The 12th Berlin Biennale, curated by Kader Attia, is open to the public through September 18, 2022.
Titled ‘Still Present!,’ this year’s Biennale presents work by 70 artists and collectives from across the globe. Pictured here are installation views from five of the Biennale’s six venues, spread across Berlin. Among other themes, the works on display explore non-Western Feminist movements, the politics of restitution, and the affective potential of art in the 21st century.
