ICA Miami Museum

Located in the design district the ICA Museum Miami is one of the top contemporary art museums in the world and with Free admission its an amazing service to the Miami community and millions of visitors.

For my latest piece for lofficielusa, I take a look at the work of the late Berlin-based artist Michel Majerus, who has his first US museum survey opening at icamiami this month. It's one of many initiatives happening to mark the 20th anniversary of his tragic passing. “He really expanded on painting as a medium early on,” says Stephanie Seidel, co-curator of the ICA show. “Painting is so much more than just oil on really connects to how we read and perceive and redistribute images.” Link in bio. #FriezeLondon | Damián Ortega's Monster, 2019. This gore creature comes into being through a process of piling up debris from unrealized sculptures left in the studio.⁣
"We are so used to functionality, aesthetics and usefulness, that we don't consider the possibility of a sculpture being something else: awkward, useless, ugly."⁣
Ortega was recently awarded the first Ezratti Family Prize for Sculpture by the ICA Miami where he will unveil a brand new commission this coming November.⁣
On view at booth D5 from 2-6 October.⁣

Liz Deschenes will present an artist talk on Zoom tomorrow, 3/10, 7pm as part of the ICA Miami’s “ICA Speaks” series. Please visit the link in our bio to register for the event.

Over the last 20 years, Liz Deschenes has created a body of photographic work that explores light, material, and space. Rather than producing images, she explores the relationship between the material processes through which images are produced, the ways in which seeing is habituated, the history of the medium, and exhibition structures of presentation as a critical counterpoint to a world awash in media. This presentation will explore concepts central to the artist’s practice, as well as recent work.

Getting my last dose of art this week with miamiandbeaches at mocanomi!
I often get asked for date night ideas, and #MOCAnomi is an option I never considered. They host Jazz @ MOCA on the last Friday of every month featuring live music, drinks, food trucks, and more - and it’s free to attend. (Hot tip: They’ve hosted Grammy Award winning artists, so it’s legit.) The next one is October 25th.
Thank you to miamiandbeaches for inviting me to discover new gems in my own backyard this week! For more details about all of the places we visited, check out my blog post on (Link in bio.) #FoundInMiami
Such a wonderful and thoughtful soul. RIP 🙏🏿🙏🏿Michael Richards🙏🏿🙏🏿 Repost: dmbishere💎 Michael Richards: Are You Down? at MOCA North Miami in 2021, is the first museum retrospective and the largest ever exhibition of Michael Rolando Richards (1963–2001) body of work.Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. Richards moved back to the U.S. to attend Queens College (B.A) in 1985, and received an MA from NYU in 1991.On the morning of September 11, 2001, Michael Richards was working in his LMCC World Views studio on the 92nd floor of World Trade Center, Tower One, when the first plane struck, taking his life along with the thousands of others who passed away in the tragic events of that day. At the time of his passing, Richards was an emerging artist, whose work fits impeccably into today’s contemporary landscape. He would have undoubtably become a leading art world figure.Go. See. This. Show‼️It is a must. Congratulations to cbudgazad and mocanomi who have been killing it exhibition-wise, and to the thoughtful, beautiful curatorial work done by melissalev and fagalho#michaelrichardsartist #michaelrichards #mocanomi #exhibitiondesign #miamiartexhibitions #makingartwhileblack #contemporaryart #contemporaryartists #museum
Pinkas Bursztyn
The Yellow Star, 1947 - 1949Oil on cardboard“The Yellow Star (1947-49), one of the artist's earliest known works, is a portrait of a Jewish concentration-camp prisoner. Burstzyn made it while a refugee in Israel. The figure's emaciated face is depicted using the same yellow that is found on the Star of David, inscribed with the German word Jude, on the prisoner's striped uniform. Such graphic symbolism becomes a leitmotif in later Maryan works. The emotional gravitas and autobiographical nature of The Yellow Star also prefigures the psychic intensity of later works”.My name is Maryan Exhibition maryan.s.maryan at mocanomi#painting #art #artist #artwork #drawing #artistsoninstagram #paint #illustration #contemporaryart #jewsart #artoftheday #instaart #arte #acrylicpainting #watercolor #digitalart #draw #abstractart #artgallery #design #love #paintings #oilpainting #portrait #fineart #painter #photography #modernart #maryan #mocanomi
mocanomi#mocanomi “Didier William: Nou Kite Tout Sa Dèyè”
.the largest retrospective of Didier William’s career. Translated as “We’ve Left That All Behind,” the show presents an in-depth look at the North Miami-raised artist’s career and memory among the very neighborhood where he once grew up.Curated by Erica Moiah James, Ph.D, the exhibition will feature over forty works spanning multiple mediums, and including some of his newest paintings. Complementing the painted work, and speaking to the close relationship of painting and printmaking in William’s practice, are new drawings and artist books. The show also includes William’s first monumental sculpture: a 12-ft.-tall wooden body emblematic of a religious column present in Haitian worship rituals.
💫Very excited to announce 💫 “Michael Richards: Are You Down.” Many years in the making with consummate collaborator Alex Fialho (fagalho) and our deeply invested partners mocanomi, this retrospective brings together a prolific decade of Michael Richards’ sculpture and drawing practice. “Michael Richards: Are You Down?” will include several recently conserved or newly resurfaced artworks that will be displayed together for the first time, extensively representing Richards’ artistic engagement with Blackness, diaspora, spirituality, police brutality, and fallen monuments. Though Richards’ work is certainly of its time in the 1990s, it simultaneously speaks poetically and provocatively to our contemporary moment. I am humbled everyday to have the opportunity to care for Michael’s body of work. Can’t wait to share widely, safely in person, and virtually....The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is pleased to present the exhibition "Michael Richards: Are You Down?" — the first museum retrospective of Michael Richards’ artwork, exhibiting both his extensive sculpture and drawing practice.Of Jamaican and Costa Rican lineage, Michael Richards was born in Brooklyn in 1963, raised in Kingston, and came of age between post-independence Jamaica and post-civil rights era America. Richards used the language of metaphor to investigate racial inequity and the tension between assimilation and exclusion in his art. Flight and aviation were central themes for Richards as an exploration of freedom and escape, ascendance and descent. His artwork gestures towards both repression and reprieve from social injustices, and the simultaneous possibilities of uplift and downfall, often in the context of the historic and ongoing oppression of Black people.
Tragically, Michael Richards passed away on September 11, 2001 while working in his Lower Manhattan Cultural Council World Views studio on the 92nd floor of World Trade Center, Tower One. At age 38, Richards was an emerging artist whose incisive aesthetic held immense promise to make him a leading figure in contemporary art. On view through October 2021, this retrospective also marks the 20th anniversary of 9/11.

Rubell Museum Miami

Rubell Museum ( DC and Miami ) is one of the more celebrated art collections in Miami.

Can never get enough Kusama! ⚪️ “LET’S SURVIVE FOREVER” opened to the public during artbasel week at the newly expanded rubellmuseum in Miami. I got to experience this Infinity Mirrored Room for 2 whole minutes, which is longer than most museums allow, and the line was so short we got to go in multiple times! 😱💖 #YayoiKusama #RubellMuseum
Nowadays, my hair is much like Warhol's but my mood is perpetually Nara. I've been grumpy. Can you blame me? I've moved on from twiddling my thumbs to tapping my toes, standing in wait to rush off as soon as I can. But in the charged look that we share, ideas are also brewing. As Nara has said, "I don’t paint when I am happy. I only paint when I am angry, lonely, sad, when I am able to talk to the work." Oddly, it's in these moments of desperation that I often find most clarity.

Art Basel Miami Beach sneak peek: we're delighted to feature a number of new paintings by Doron Langberg (doronlangberg), whose work will be on view concurrently in a new presentation at the Rubell Museum Miami (rubellmuseum). The works in our presentation continue the artist's intimate yet expansive take on relationships, sexuality, nature, family and the self to propose how painting can both portray and create queer subjectivity.Victoria Miro at Art Basel Miami Beach (Booth H8)

Charles Dickens wrote in a Tale of Two Cities in 1859 those famous words that sum up how I feel about 2020:“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness”As I move forward with the knowledge that we have so very little control over anything, I’m also filled with incredible hope and respect for science, human resilience and the qualities of compassion, love, and creativity. ❤️🌞🌟The installation is Yayoi Kusama and the painting at the end is Keith Haring rubellmuseum
