The African American painters known as the Florida Highwaymen are renowned for their depictions of Florida’s natural landscapes but the story of the genesis of the collective is as intriguing as the works themselves. This exhibition focuses on the recollections of Doretha Hair Truesdell widow of Alfred Hair universally accepted as the founder of the group. Mrs. Hair Truesdell’s firsthand account breathes new life into the narrative of this vibrant community of artists.
