A selection of artwork by Val Kilmer is being presented by Fabrik Projects LAArtShow. Best known as an actor, valkilmerofficial has been making art his whole life, focusing on painting, sculpture and video installations for the last decade. “I've developed strong and nuanced themes in my art from acting and performance that relate to iconic images or ideas - so there's a thread of the icon, the Iconographic and the ethereal throughout the work.”
Among featured work, are pieces from various series by Kilmer, including his Icon paintings, God panels and abstract works. In the Icon series, Kilmer uses painting to investigate the nature of Icons and explore themes of celebrity, identity, reproduction and American mythic archetypes.
The GOD Panels are individually painted laser-cut metal panels of the word GOD in which Kilmer invokes the word GOD as the ultimate Icon. The abstract works are painted works, more in the spirit of Russian Icons, replacing wood with metal. Windows into another world, the larger abstract works are generated from high-resolution scans of the painted metal panels in which only a small window of the fractal world is blown-up to reveal yet another window. fabrikmedia

Painting wings is dreamy work…a little something different for LA Art Show this year. This was certainly the tallest egg tempera I’ve ever painted - measuring 6 ft in height and 4ft wide. Here, it is shown on the easel, turned sideways- which made it easier to refine some of more hard-to-reach passages.

(I remained professional as the 10-year-old fan of the best boyband ever in me screamed, cried, and maybe had a brain aneurysm)

We are pleased to announce artist, Robert Vargas will be painting a powerful mural on-site at the opening of the LAArtShow 2023 entitled, "Protect The Life Givers" for his series, The sacRED Project. therobertvargas

The third mural in a three-city series – Albuquerque, New York City and now Los Angeles – is a call to address the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in Canada, the United States and Latin America.

The #MMIW movement is intended to focus on the impact of violence in communities and the high rates of domestic violence, sexual violence and growing rates of trafficking combined with the problems of poverty, racism and homelessness, making this issue more challenging to address.

The mural represents a call to collectively stop this epidemic and “Protect Our Life Givers.” The red hand over the subject's mouth is intended to represent the missing women whose voices have been silenced.
