This familiar, intimate portrait of Barack and Michelle Obama by Mariana Cook, was made long before he became president, while he was a community organizer in Chicago. Cook made this photograph as a part of a book she was working on, titled “Couples: Speaking from the Heart.” Ironically, this particular image did not make it into the final book. It was filed away until 2009, the year Obama was inaugurated for his first term as the President of the United States. The historic image will be offered by Lee Marks Fine Art in the upcoming auction “Four Decades: In Celebration of AIPAD,” presented by Sothebys from December 15 through 21, 2020.

The People's Princess, this image was made by Yousuf Karsh at the height of her acting career in 1956. During their sitting, Hepburn shared her harrowing experiences during the Second World War. Years later, when Karsh photographed Chairman Brezhnev at the Kremlin, he agreed "only if you make me as beautiful as Audrey Hepburn."

One of our favorite "Dunes" by the prolific Brett Weston. A bit of history behind the photographer - In 1929, Brett and his father moved to Carmel, California where the Weston family, including Brett’s three brothers, would maintain homes for the rest of their lives. At various times, Brett Weston also lived in Los Angeles where he had his own studio and portrait business, and in New York where he was stationed in the army. He later traveled extensively on personal photographic trips to South America, Europe, Japan, Alaska, and Hawaii. Following a 1947 Guggenheim Fellowship which he used to photograph along the East Coast, he moved to Carmel to assist his ailing father, and pursue his fine art work, including wood sculpture that was influenced by his own photographs. brettwestonarchive
