THE WORLD AS I KNOW IThis exhibition gathers over twenty five mixed-media engravings and one large-format sculpture by Haitian-American artist Edouard Duval-Carrie. Works are filled with references to the Caribbean history and literature, as well as to its popular religions and culture. Recurrent themes are the Haitian Revolution and other historical passages; the popular stories of the Loas or deities in the Vodou belief system; slavery and the life and myths of symbolic literary characters.

In Carrieā€™s works, plenty of references to the political relationships between Haiti and powerful metropolises such as France and most recently, the US, can be read between the lines. They help us understand much of our contemporary history and politics. Reality and imagination are interwoven and inseparable, just as they have gone hand-in-hand for the Caribbean people, for centuries. Heir to this legacy and aware of the lack of images that are inherent of the region, Carrier gifts us with a new imaginary that is definitively closer to the world as he knows it.
